Q&A

What happened to the chicks that arrived in the mail?

Unfortunately, we had a challenging experience with the chicks arriving in the mail. Four of them died within the first 24 hours, but the remaining 10 are doing well and ready to join Wattville.

Will the new chicks be free-ranging with the other birds?

Not yet. Since the chicks are still young and vulnerable, we'll be housing them in a chicken tractor within Wattville to protect them and allow the other birds to get used to their presence.

Are the chicks male or female?

At this stage, we're unable to determine the gender of the chicks. We initially ordered 5 roosters and 10 hens, but due to some unfortunate losses, we'll need to wait until they mature to identify their genders.

What happened to the chicken tractor during the windstorm?

The windstorm blew off the top of our chicken tractor and caused some damage to its frame. However, we were able to fix it up and make it Homestead perfect again.

Why did the ducks decide to live with the silkies?

The ducks chose to live with the silkies because they found a more pleasant environment and companionship there. They now share the house with the silkies, creating a unique mix of birds.
