🌑A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, completely blocking the face of the sun.
🔭People in the path of totality will be able to see the corona, or the atmosphere of the sun, peeking out from around the moon.
🌍The April 8 eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean and will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
👥NASA estimates that 31.6 million people live in the path of totality this year, meaning they will get to see the main body of the sun totally blocked out.
🌘The next total solar eclipse will occur in 2026, happening somewhere on Earth about every 18 months.
