Converting My UTV to Remote Control with 3D Printed Parts

TLDRIn this video, I convert my all-electric UTV to be completely remote controlled using 3D printed parts. I will also be mounting a snowplow on the front to plow my entire road without ever having to go outside. Watch as I show you the process of creating this robotically controlled vehicle.

Key insights

🔧I successfully convert my UTV to be remote controlled using 3D printed parts.

❄️I mount a snowplow on the front of the UTV to plow my road without going outside.

🤖The UTV is now a robotically controlled full-size vehicle.

🔌I use off-the-shelf components and an Arduino controller to translate inputs from the remote control.

🚜I showcase the process of fabricating and mounting the 3D printed parts for remote control functionality.

Q&A

How did you power the remote control?

The controller is designed to work with 48 volts, which is the voltage of the UTV.

Was it difficult to modify the brake and throttle pedals?

I had to extend the brake and throttle pedals to match the throw of the actuators. It required some fabrication work, but it was successful.

What challenges did you face during the conversion process?

One challenge was ensuring the pivot points for the actuators were in line with the forces to avoid any side loading. Another challenge was aligning the 3D printed parts with the existing UTV components.

How did you control the steering wheel of the UTV remotely?

I used a Mega steering servo to turn the steering wheel remotely, using a linear actuator.

What tools and materials did you use for this conversion?

I used a 3D printer, off-the-shelf components, an Arduino controller, welding equipment, and various fabrication tools.
